01 / The reason we go

It's about more
than the miles.Honoring families affected by Alzheimer's.

The distance is great. The next step is possible.
3,000Miles ahead
100Miles at a time
One day at a time One next right step

Three thousand miles can seem overwhelming. But 100 miles a day, one day at a time, makes the journey possible. Alzheimer's is much the same. We don't know what tomorrow holds or what challenges lie ahead, but we trust God to give us the wisdom, courage, strength, and endurance to take the next right step.

This journey began with Mom, but it represents every family touched by Alzheimer's. The disease may steal moments from our future, but it cannot erase a lifetime of love or the meaning of the memories we've made. We believe every person deserves to be remembered, loved, and honored for who they are and who they've always been—not defined by what this disease has taken.

Every mile represents a memory.

We don't make this
journey alone.Meet the crew and families behind Miles of Memories.

Alzheimer's has touched both of our families. That shared experience inspired Jamie and Charlie to begin this journey—not only to honor the people we love, but to show love and support to other families facing the same battle.

We're taking the stories of loved ones along with us, sharing their memories and messages of encouragement throughout the journey. Every story reminds us that a person's life is so much greater than this disease—and that no family walks this road alone.

We may be two men on one boat, but we'll be carrying the memories of many.

Meet the crew

The people behind the journey.

Two families touched by Alzheimer's, united by a shared purpose.

Captain

Jamie Ramirez

Jamie is married to his wife, Julie, and currently serves as a bass fishing team captain at St. Paul's. His son, JJ, competes on the Dallas Baptist University (DBU) bass fishing team in the collegiate circuit. With Alzheimer's having touched his own family, Jamie brings both experience on the water and a personal commitment to this mission.

Crew

Charlie Blauvelt

Charlie is married to his loving wife, Karina. Together they have four children: Alexis, Kennedy, Kadence, and Charlotte. Kennedy will join the expedition in Miami and take over as boat captain for the Miami-to-Bahamas leg of the journey. Inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's, Charlie hopes to help carry the memories of loved ones and bring encouragement to others.
